Located at Group 7 and Period 5 of the Periodic table is one of the element used in gamma rays, which is for x - rays. This is Technetium.
First discovered by C. Perrier and Emilio Gino Segre together in 1937. First created ( not isolated, since it is a artificially produced element ) by C. Perrier and Emilio Gino Segre in 1937 too.

Technetium is technically a synthetic element meaning a man - made element. It was once thought by early chemists that every empty boxes in the periodic table must be filled up. So, they predicted that element - 43 must've existed because there are still empty boxes between element 42 ( Molybdenum ) and element 44 ( Ruthenium ).
By 1925, there are only 5 more empty spaces, 5 more elements to be discovered. So, many scientist was so eager to discover it that in 1925, a new element that must've filled up the empty space was discovered. However, the new element is after that cannot be produced by other chemists. So, the results are believed to be fudged.
Cyclotron |
No one knew, the fact that element - 43 was only discovered 12 years later. Finally, in 1937, the year where Particle Accelerators existed, Technetium was finally created by both scientists C. Perrier and Emilio Gino Segre using Particle Accelerator. Of course, no one expected that Technetium would not exist on Earth, only waiting to be created.
Technetium existence in Red Giant Stars |
Technetium was created by C. Perrier and Emilio Gino Segre using the Particle Accelerator, or called Cyclotron. Technetium is created by bombarding Molybdenum Atoms with accelerated Deuterium particles ( Heavy Hydrogen ) accelerated by a Particle Accelerator machine called Cyclotron. The product will be Technetium.
Today, Technetium is created in Nuclear Reactors, which produce it's ' parent ', Molybdenum - 99, which after also still decays into Technetium.
X - Rays |
Still, Technetium is the first man - made element to be synthesized, so it is never found in nature. However, by examining the light emitted by the stars, it is believed that there might be existence of Technetium in stars.
However, Technetium is only found in 0.003 parts per trillion, which is one of the rarest man - made element.
Technetium is also used as medical purposes such as x - rays, too.

How Technetium got its name?
Technetium got its name from the Greek word, Technetos, meaning artificial. It was named so because Technetium was the first element in the Periodic Table to be synthesized, meaning the element is created artificially.
Uses
Technetium is used as alloying with steel, which have useful properties such as very resistant to corrosion and also resist reactions with Oxygen. Besides, to do Technetium - Steel alloy, you just need to do the ratio of 50 Technetium : 1000000 Steel just to be very resistant to corrosion as well as reactions with oxygen. However, because Technetium is very radioactive, direct contact with Technetium - Steel will not be advised.

Besides, its isotopes Technetium - 99m might be used in x - rays for medical purposes because it was clinically proven that Technetium - 99m does almost no harm when it goes into our body. So therefore, Technetium is used in x -rays, mainly to improve the details.
THIS IS THE END OF TECHNETIUM
